When
I returned to knitting in anticipation of my first grandchild, I
had no idea that I would discover two new loves. My initial attraction
to the textures and colors of available fibers soon moved to more
primal threads of wool, silk and angora. The transition from knitting
to felting seemed a natural leap. The uncomplicated process of felting
holds the unexpected where creations morph from their knitted form
into fuzzy fiber. It is this ancient and magical change that captures
and sustains my fascination. An exciting and vibrant layer of color
and dimension can then be added with needle felting. The wet felting
technique is even less controllable, although ironically more "hands
on". Processing hot water, soap on unspun fibers allows colors
to flow together; you are truly painting with wool.Works presented are created with natural fibers of wool, silk, mohair and interesting textural elements. They are cut, layered and sometimes fused using wet and needle felting techniques. Painting with wool provides the colors and textures that play a crucial role interpretation. Fiber art is always special, unique and it can never be reproduced. I hope you too will be drawn to fiber art, its ancient past, and its organic and sensuous nature. |
